Are you kidding me? Impeachment? For what?
Oh my goodness, I thought that Democrats were poor losers, but this just takes the cake!
Impeachment? Really?
You really should look at some of the information being spread by these folks. Ignorance certainly is bliss, because they're claiming that President Obama and his Administration is everything from Marxist to having stolen the election with voter fraud. (Funny, I could've sworn that I read about the electronic voting machines in several states that gave Romney the vote, no matter which box you'd clicked!)
And the "Obamacare" that they're blathering about was based upon the system set up by Romney! So, what alternate reality do these people live in? Why is it when the Democratic (Black) President gets it through, it's bad, but when the Republican governor implemented it in his state, it was good?
Oh, and the secede movement. OMGoodness, are you kidding? REALLY? And they think that anyone is going to take them seriously?
Impeach the President? Nonsense!!
These fools have been listening to Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, who make their money by blathering away on the radio, making idiots of themselves as they lie their way through another hour of your life. Have they forgotten that Rush is a drug addict and Hannity is just an out-and-out idiot?
Knowledge is power so you really should know what these fools are carrying on about, even if you agree with me -- they're morons. Check out the foolishness being spouted on the Internet, but if you don't want to blow a gasket, avoid Limbaugh's and Hannity's radio shows at all costs. Just read the transcripts, it's a little easier on your nerves...

A Presidential State of Mind
"The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function. One should, for example, be able to see that things are hopeless and yet be determined to make them otherwise." ~F. Scott Fitzgerald
I want my President to be able to see past the difficulties and negativity of the moment.
I want my President to see the positivity and potential in his decisions, knowing that he'll be vilified no matter what he does, so he makes the choice that leads to a better future. He doesn't waste time and energy wallowing in the past.
I want my President to lead the people, pursuading Congress to think past the pork barrel projects, past the extremists shouting outside, past their own petty concerns, and look toward a positive outcome for the people -- and not their own political survival.
I want my President to care about me and you and the guy down the block and the Veterans who've come home damaged by war who need more help than the government currently provides. I want my President to care about the people. His people.
I want my President to look past the storm and determine to ride it out, no matter what the personal cost and how hopeless it all looks right this minute.
Hopelessness is a state of mind and all too often, when you look back at it, you realize that you did make it through the storm. Not untouched. Often not unharmed. But you made it through, despite all the odds against you. And life is good.
That's what I want in my President.

No Credible Candidates
I was talking to someone today about the Republican candidates that are popping out of the woodwork -- like cockroaches.
Oh me, oh my, do the Repubs have a credible candidate one?
I don't think so.
Seriously, each of the Republicans that have thrown their hat into the ring has some kind of major flaw that's going to put off enough voters to wreck their chances at winning.
Now, don't get me wrong here, I'm not unhappy with this, being a Democrat and all...
But seriously, who is going to vote for the Mormon candidate? Who is going to vote for the candidate associated with the Tea Party? Who is going to vote for the guy who has little or no political experience (think Palin in a man's suit)? In all seriousness, I don't see a single viable candidate on the Republican side of the house. Every single one is going to have insurmountable issues when it comes to the mainstream moderate voter.
Oh, yeah, they'll jump up and down and have hissy fits, bring up all kinds of BS about our President, make false accusations and in the end, shoot themselves in their own big feet. There will be more discussion of our President being born in Kenya despite all the evidence to the contrary. There will be more carrying on and that's all it's going to be, the same blah blah blah that was completely unsuccessful in the last election.
When will they ever learn?
When will they figure out that Americans don't want to hear all that negative BS? Americans want to hear what the heck the politicians plan to do to boost the economy -- and that does NOT include lining the pockets of the rich. Giving tax cuts and incentives to the rich means just one thing -- the rich get richer and there's still no jobs...
Yeah, the Repubs are going to have to do better than they have so far if they even want to have a smell of the 2012 election.
(Thank goodness! Our President is doing the best job possible considering the horrible mess and the stonewalling of the Republicans in Congress. I know who I'm voting for and it's not a Republican candidate.)

History Will Be Made Tomorrow
Yes, it's a historic election in many, many ways.
It's more than electing our first [officially] Black President.
Honestly, whether Obama wins or loses, it will still be historic.
We've already had a huge turnout of voters. People who have never voted in their lives have not only registered to vote, but stood in line for two or three hours to vote.
I know I'm planning on being at my polling site when it opens at 7am. I normally vote after work, but with the anticipated huge turnout of voters, plus bad weather, I don't want to take a chance that I'll miss my chance to vote this year.
Obama is a remarkable man. Grieving his beloved grandmother, who passed on to Heaven today, he has stayed poised and on track throughout this election.
Despite vile lies, misdirection, out and out racism, and then even more lies, Obama is still standing strong and proud.
And let me say again, lies, lies, lies.
It's not like it's the first Presidential campaign that tried to imply that the candidate wasn't a citizen, that he wasn't really a Christian (remember it was a huge thing that JFK was Catholic), that he would bring chaos into the American system of government, that he wasn't white (but of course, Obama is mixed, so he really isn't all white), etc, etc, etc.
PULEEZE people, get a grip.
The United States system of government has been amazingly successful for us. We manage, every four years, to elect or re-elect a President, to maintain a stable government, to avoid chaos in the transition.
IE, life goes on.
I do believe that Obama is the best man for the job.
I'm sure I'll have someone e-mailing me and telling me a bunch of horrible lies that have long been discredited by www.snopes.com (a valuable resource, you should check it out).
Even my own parents, die hard Republicans, told me some of the blathering that's being smeared across the air by too many right wing radio hosts.
For example, did you know that if Obama loses, there will be riots in the streets of America? REALLY??? I'm rolling my eyes and shaking my head over that crazy idea. I haven't heard any such thing over here on the Democratic side of the world. I can't imagine that people would riot over a Presidential election. That just does not happen in America.
(The ONLY way there would be riots would be if some idiot caused harm to our Brother. And my Brothers and Sisters of Color would not be alone, there'd be a boatload of whites up in the mix. Fortunately the Secret Service is on top of security, there won't be any slip ups.)
I must say, the Republican machine must be getting pretty desperate to come up with that kind of bull droppings...
And I'm sure you've heard all the nonsense about Obama's birth certificate, that he's not a native born American, that he's an Arab, that he follows Islam. I even read one comment online, that he's the anti-Christ.
OMfreakinggoodness!!
People, as important as this election is to all of us, get a grip!! And in fact, take a hard look at the sources of all these lies.
Remember, the ends DO NOT justify the means.
Obama has remained poised and gentlemanly, despite all the mudslinging. McCain seems more shrill by the minute.
Yes, Obama is Presidential material. He'll be a fine figure leading our country.
Remember, the President is the leader, but Congress runs the show. Obama can only do so much in our system of checks and balances.
Even Bush could only do so much damage. It was plenty bad enough, but he wasn't able to destroy the country, in spite of all his efforts. Thanks to Powell and Rice and many, many other bright, intelligent staff, even Bush was generally not all bad.
Get a grip, my people!!
The world won't end when Obama wins the election. In fact, neither will the country.
We will have our normal orderly change of the guard, at the last minute Bush will pardon some doofus(s) that don't really deserve it, he'll sign a few more bills into law, he'll give his outgoing speeches, and then Obama will take his oath of office on the Bible -- yes a regular Bible, just like the one you have on your nightstand.
Everything will go on, just like it does every four years.
History will be made tomorrow.
I'm looking forward to it...

South Carolina! Need I Say More?
Oh, my goodness!
I am just filled with joy on this day!
Obama is ruling the day and the Clintons' tactics blew up in their faces!
I really believe that the more the Clintons bring up race, the more it's going to accentuate their own failings. Dirty politics has never worked with me, and I'm becoming more and more hopeful that my fellow Americans are waking up and smelling the BS.
South Carolina! Need I say more?
Well, the Cali primary is on February 5th and for the first time in many a long year, I'm thinking that my vote is really going to make a difference, instead of making the best of a bunch of bad choices.
As I've said before, I don't think Hilary can win the Presidential election. Too many people just plain hate Bill. She's going to lose votes because of her husband.
I really believe Obama has a better chance of crossover votes from the Republican side. He's not too, too liberal. He's not too, too conservative. He FEELS like he's a better representative of the majority of Americans.
I was really doubtful that Americans were ready for a Black President, but every day I'm feeling more and more optimistic that Obama is THE choice for the Democrats.
Go Obama!!

Alas, Babylon
Why am I writing about a novel written in 1959, before the Civil Rights movement, before desegregation, before the Cold War ended, before we could even think of peace with Russia and China?
Pat Frank's classic novel, Alas Babylon, in some ways seems outdated, and yet in others, it hits too close to home.
Politics of the Middle East, spy satellites, nuclear weapons -- sound familiar?
We sometimes forget how far we have come.
The novel still calls our Brothers and Sisters of Color "Negros". The water fountain was still labeled "White" and "Colored". People were still concerned about "Negros" bringing down property values. A man of color was still not considered a man in the white dominated society.
Today, we have a Black man running for President. Most of us are aware that the difference between our Brothers and Sisters and ourselves are merely outward appearances. We are all concerned about our kids, crime, finances, survival.
In the novel, in the end a woman is President. Why? Because "the most junior of government departments and a woman" is the only one that survives the nuclear war, because she was on an inspection tour.
Today, a woman runs for President. Not a default position, but as a fully accepted political candidate.
In the novel, men and women, white and Black, pull together to survive.
Today, do we pull together, or do we pull apart?
If, God forbid, we actually had a nuclear strike or some horrible natural disaster, could we survive, not just as a nation, but as humanity?
In the novel, they do survive. Without electricity, without telephones, without even radios, they survive. The United States survives.
In real life, in 2008, we're without power for three days and our lives are in chaos.
I question, what will we do if, God forbid, the worst ever happens?
Perhaps I think too much. Perhaps I worry too much.
But I know one thing. My father always told us, "Proper prior planning prevents piss poor performance."
Who is planning?
Who?
I worry because it seems like we live for the moment. Too much credit, too many bills, too little saved and stored for emergencies. Even during the recent power outages, I had to go and get batteries and ice, and I actually do have a plan. Well, sort of a plan. But I don't have any money set aside or enough non-perishables stored to last more than a week or two.
And so I worry, while the satellite dish is bringing in some inane show the kids are watching, the ceiling fan is whirling, the icemaker drops another chunk of ice into a glass, the computer is humming away as I type this.
What would we do if we really did have to take care of ourselves for not just a couple of days, but for a year, years, a lifetime? No electricity, no computers, no banks, no cars, no stores, no law?
What would we do?
