Veterans Day

Yes, it's a day off from work.

But let us not forget the men and women of the Armed Forces, who have sacrificed so, so much in order that we can live in the ways that we choose.

So that I can write in my blogs and not fear that my door will be broken down and my kids and I carried away, just because some politician or cop didn't like what I wrote.

That I can live in the neighborhood that I choose, work at the job I choose, drive the car or truck that I choose.

Veterans have provided us with the protections that we have, so we can CHOOSE to live the way we want, in peace and [more or less] harmony with our neighbors.

Today is a good day to say thank you to a Veteran.

Today is a good day to take a minute and thank the Lord for those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedoms.

Today is a good day.

Veterans Day, November 11, 2009.

Thank you.

Refuses To Marry Interracial Couples?

Are you kidding me? This Justice of the Peace refuses to marry interracial couples and in Louisiana, that's OK?

Are you joking?

And people think that racism doesn't exist? PULEEZE!!

Oh, yeah, he says he's not a racist. He even lets Blacks in his house. They even use his bathroom.

That is so f*ing clueless that it's scary.

I'm darn near speechless, not just in disbelief, but in rage! An elected official who thinks that it's OK to refuse to follow the law and apparently has already been warned about it -- and he's still in office?? Are you kidding me????

But you should read this for yourself and draw your own conclusions about this clown. I'm afraid that my conclusions aren't printable in a family space...

Racism

Tami says it better than I ever could.

Check it out:
http://whattamisaid.blogspot.com/2009/09/ism-that-dare-not-speak-its-name.html

Please don't just gloss over and then discount what she's written.

If you do, you've joined the masses that trivialize and marginalize our Brothers and Sisters of Color, discounting their truths because you just don't want to see the pain that still exists in this country.

When you deny another person's truth, you deny their very being.

Think about it.

Medical Coverage For All

You know, I'm tired of the misinformation and just flat out BS that's being put out regarding health coverage in the US.

Let me tell you, I make decent money, and I'm being bled dry by the costs of my health plan. It's HELLA expensive and gets more expensive every year. In addition, my work is trying to mess with the plan we have. (I'm not getting into the details of that, I don't risk my job for a blog -- sorry.)

No matter how it all falls out, this is what I want to see:
  1. Free vaccinations for EVERYONE. You get a little shot card, you walk in anywhere and get free vaccinations. No questions asked. No status, no nothing. This is about everyone's health and the more people who choose to be vaccinated, the better off we all are. Think of how many cases of Hep A that could be avoided just by encouraging everyone to get vaccinated. Free. No questions asked.
  2. Free TB tests and treatment. This is the same thing, all about public health. People blather on about undocs bringing TB into the country. Well, first, many are NOT undocumented, and most are NOT Hispanic! TB is an important public health issue and should be treated, no matter what a person's economic or citizenship status is.

No matter what else the powers that be decide, these two things should be free and available to everybody in this country.

In addition, I think that we should take health care a step further with:

  1. All prenatal care should be free. This is obvious, healthy babies make healthier adults.
  2. All health care for kids up to age 24 or graduation from college should be free. This would be a HUGE help to parents, to know that their kids are covered. And a large part of the coverage should focus on preventive medicine. Once a young person starts working, a health plan should be available through the employer. By age 24, a person should be established enough to manage this. If not, there's always the public health clinic...

Anyway, that's my not-at-all-humble thoughts on health coverage in the United States.

I AM LIVID!!

Oh my gosh, I am just livid with our California lawmakers and the idiot governator.

They have a budget, so he goes in with his blue pen and lines out more stuff?

Why the HELL did the budget get so delayed, when he was holding it up, and then he just went in and destroyed a bunch of hard won agreements and work anyway?

The governor of California is a bleeding idiot and so are all too many of my fellow inmates in this beautiful asylum we call a state.

I didn't vote for this guy.

Anyone who got sucked into his BS should be sorry now.

I could have told you that we'd have a budget mess a long time ago. In fact, as soon as he got into office and leveraged all our state debt into new agreements. All he did was push the payment back, and now here we are, backs against the wall, thanks to him and his "solutions" to our budget problems.

The poor will suffer.
The middle class will suffer.
The old, the children, the disabled are now officially screwed by the governor.

I am so angry I could spit nails!

He needs to go back to the fanatsy world of the movies. Because he's forgotten where he came from. Now he's just another bent up Republican on a power trip.

People, pay attention to who you vote for.

IE: Be careful what you wish for -- you might get it.

And oh, man, did we get it...

Obama's Supreme Court Choice

OMGoodness!

We FINALLY get a good pick for the Supreme Court and the GOP is having a hemorrhage about a speech that she made in 1991!

Yes, Sonia Sotomayor did say that a Latina judge "would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."

Context people, think context!

The people having the biggest fits are old white guys who were never poor. Ever.

The point is that each judge brings their own background with them to the bench. That's human, we ALL view things from the influences of our lives.

A Latina woman who came up from poverty, fighting her way into law school and success, is definitely going to view life from a different perspective than a white child of a privileged background.

In some ways, she may be more compassionate. In others, she may be harder than any of us can imagine.

Don't buy into the media and the politicians carrying on. It's all a tempest in a teapot. She'll be great!

Sonia Sotomayor is a great choice for the Supreme Court!

Arnold Doesn't Know A Thing About The State Budget!

Yes, you heard me say it.

Not only is Arnold an idiot, he doesn't know a damn thing about the budget that he's blathering about!

Let's take just a quick pot-shot at him today, it's easy enough.

He wants to cut the Healthy Families program. It costs the state about 350 million or so a year. First, is he really so stupid that he wants to cut health care for CHILDREN? Second, if he cuts the program, the state loses about $500 million in Federal funding.

Wait a minute, that's not saving us money, it'll cost us $150 million!

And that's not even the most stupid thing he said this week.

He said he'll cut CalWORKs.

Say what?!?

He's going to cut a program that costs about $1.5 billion. Yeah, that's hella money.

But, but, but --

It brings in $4 billion from the Feds! So he's going to throw away $3.5 billion?

Arnold thinks that the general public is going to buy into his bullshit.

Think not!

Remember, every time Arnold opens his mouth, he's lying to you, to me, to us all.

I can hardly wait for the next election...

Another Child Lost

What is it, that people think it's somehow OK to harm a child?

Yes, little Sandra Cantu lost her life to the perversions of an adult. In this case, the arrested person is a woman, her neighbor, her friend's mother, a trusted member of the community.

The perverted desires of adults that lead to harming our precious children.

How could you hate a child so much that you could hurt her, kill her?

I'm not a big fan of the death penalty, mainly because too many innocent men have been sent to their deaths. Too many have come too close to dying for a crime they didn't commit, due to mistaken witnesses and railroaded by prosecutors determined to overlook all evidence of innocence. And then the justice system fails them again by refusing to look at all evidence, refusing to accept recanted testimonies, failing to account for the prejudice, bigotry, racism that still infects our society like a weeping wound of poison.

But to kill a child?

What would lead anyone to harm a child?

I think death is too good, too easy for people like that. They should suffer in isolation, in prison until the end of their days.

Yes, my heart cries out for death, death, death, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. The Old Testament speaks to my desire for vengeance.

But that's too easy of a solution. Too easy, too convenient, too forgiving of the sin of murder.

Yes, forgiving.

Death is the easy way out.

Vengeance is mine sayth the Lord.

True punishment is forcing her murderer to live out her allotted number of days, alone, the only thing left for her to do is regret and repent of the deed that led to that lonely cell. Alone in that cell, just her and God together, for many long years.

Poor little Sandra. I pray that she didn't know what was happening, that she didn't suffer, that God gathered her Home quickly.

May God rest her sweet little soul and Jesus hold her close until her family joins her in Heaven. I pray that Jesus will continue to hold her family close in their pain and sorrow.

Another child lost.

Keep your children close. Watch over them. Cherish them. Pray over them. Love them. Love them forever.

Be Warned, The Winds Of Change Are Coming!

Well, I hate to say it, but this year's budget debacle is nothing new.

We darn near have a budget, and the GOP worked the whole situation to get concessions.

Of course, ALL of the politicians wanted their bit of pork barrel in there, and I'm quite sure they got it. Arnold too.

For those of you outside of Cali, this is nothing new, it just dragged on longer than usual. Our current mess goes way, way back, long before Davis and the foolishness of the recall and election (and reelection) of Arnie.

Believe me, the little people are all too aware that our politicians don't give a rats about us.

Holding up a budget, putting the workers on furlough (can you afford to lose 2 days of work every month?), failing to pay the counties for State MANDATED programs, and then trying to blame state employees for the twists and turns of the political BS that goes on day in and day out in Sacramento. Well, at least when the politicians are actually IN Sacramento and supposedly working on our behalf.

And to add insult to injury, those same politicians are still trying to STEAL the employees' retirement funds. Yes, I'm talking about CalPERS.

CalPERS is the best managed retirement program in the United States. It's the model of retirement programs nationwide, and to be blunt, if the United States ran the Social Security system using the model of CalPERS, we wouldn't be worrying about Social Security failing.

No wonder the politicians drool every time they think of CalPERS. There's a pot of well managed money that they haven't been able to dip their sticky fingers into, and we're going to fight tooth and nail to keep them out of it.

Think "thieves in the temple".

Hell, yes, I'm calling my representatives thieves.

Liars too.

When you hear them blathering on that media sound bite about CalPERS, trust me, they don't give a flying you-know-what about you, the little person. The ENTIRE goal is to steal the little guys' retirement funds.

Don't think that I don't pay into the system either. Darn right I do! I pay out of my paycheck every month into that system, and I'm sure not going to let a pack of hyenas dip into MY money.

For all of you doubters, think Enron. Think of all the retired people who lost their entire pension thanks to the wheeling and dealing and out-and-out lies of Enron.

Don't you see a resemblence here?

I do!

I can see the vultures circling, the pack of hyenas gathering, laughing a vile laugh into the wind. They're under the delusion that they're going to steal our pensions right out from under our noses.

And my response is:

The winds of change are coming, let them come. Let them come and blow a fresh new wind into the State Assembly and Senate. Let the wind blow away the chaff from the least to the most high and leave the good grain behind, to fill the storehouse, to support the workers who work by and for the people.

Let the wind blow away the grasshoppers, who think that they should reap, but never sow. And let the workers, the busy ants, the busy bees, let their voices be heard.

And as the winds of change blow through, let the politicians who have betrayed their trust remember that when they steal from the storehouse, like thieves in the temple, they shall be lit by the light of Truth. Like the tables of the money-changers, they shall be overthrown.

"By the people, for the people." If you aren't following that policy right now, today, my representatives, you WILL be caught by the winds of change.

In other words, all you lying low-life politicians that held us hostage for the last three months, you can kiss your jobs goodbye. We are SO done with you.

Be warned, the winds of change are coming.

Just like so many of your constituents, you're going to be out of work after the next election.

I can hardly wait...

Update On Missing Boy

Oh me, oh my, it's not looking good for this poor kid.

I am darn near speechless with rage.

This poor kid was placed in a home where it appears that he was an abused child. And nobody said anything, nobody noticed? Where the F* were the social workers? Where were his teachers? What the heck happened to the system that was supposed to protect this child?

Reports have come out saying that the parents first said that he was given back to the System. Then the story changed and he'd ran away. Etc, etc, etc. I don't know what's true and what's not, the media being the way that it is, but there is a little boy missing and I rather doubt that his adoptive parents are telling the truth at this point.

God rest his little soul.

And may God judge his adoptive parents. May they receive the punishment they richly deserve in both this life and the hereafter.

I don't usually go this far in condemnation, but (leaving in that shred of doubt) if the stories of the abuse this child suffered are true, then they deserve the worst that this world and the next can offer.

God rest your little soul, darling child.

And may God bless your siblings and give them peace in knowing that as children, there really wasn't any way to protect you. That was Social Services' job and they failed miserably...

Search Starts For Boy Missing For 10 Years

Yes, that's hard to believe, isn't it? The search STARTS for a boy that's been missing for 10 years!

I saw this on Yahoo and thought, WHAT???? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090106/ap_on_re_us/missing_boy_search

This poor kid, Adam Herrman, was adopted by parents who failed to report him as missing?

Or is he long dead and no one noticed?

In either case, those "parents" need to be thoroughly investigated.

I believe that every child deserves a forever home, where the child can grow up SAFE and LOVED.

I understand that the authorities are treading carefully. They should be careful. Even though I am doubting the parents' story that the child was a chronic runaway, well, anything is possible. Better to carefully put together the case than to jump the gun and blow it like Mark Fuhrman did back in the day. Or falsely accuse the parents like in the JonBenet case.

But if these people harmed this boy, I'm praying that the truth comes out and they are punished to the full extent of the law.

Every child deserves a forever home. A home where the child can grow up SAFE and LOVED.

Not a home where they didn't even bother to report the child missing...

More Paranoia In The Hinterland

Oh my goodness!

I just got back from out of state.

Did you know that there is some MAJOR paranoia going on in the hinterland?

I heard not one, but several people comment on how they're afraid of Obama.

Whaaaaa????????????????????????????

Oh my goodness, I really couldn't believe it. Some people are listening to way too many right wing whack job radio hosts.

Obama isn't going to overturn the Constitution. Even if he is a Democrat.

He isn't going to start a race war. Even if he is African-American. (Or bi-racial if you prefer.)

He isn't going to take your guns away. Even if he is a liberal.

Why?

Folks, do I really, really have to explain it?

Obama BELIEVES in civil rights and has worked as a lawyer. He wasn't always a politician. He has a real law degree and has used his education, training and knowledge to help those less fortunate than himself.

He's probably the best thing for our country right now, despite what the tin foil hats are blathering right and left.

He's not against the Constitution of the United States. He TAUGHT constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School for 12 years!

He's not a neo-Marxist. Shoot, he served on the Senate Committee for Veteran's Affairs and sponsored legislation favorable to our Veterans.

He's not anti-white. People, his MOTHER was white!

He's not a Muslim. He's been a member of a Christian church for what, twenty or so years. He's going to swear his oath on the Lincoln Bible, for God's sake!

My people, my people, he's an American citizen, just like you and I. Born in Hawaii of a US citizen, all the blatherings about his birthplace are just that, blatherings.

I really have trouble believing the paranoia in the hinterlands of our country. People will believe anything bad about anybody, won't they? Because they saw it on TV, because someone on the Internet said it, so it must be true.

I just shake my head. Then I sigh. People will believe anything except the plain, unvarnished truth...
