I was reading some comments on the Supreme Court decision regarding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Ummm, are some of these people really unclear or just ignorant? Leaving the US because of the healthcare act? Where are they going to go -- most developed countries have a universal health plan!!
I'm afraid I laughed myself silly.
As for Mitt and his blathering about repealing the healthcare act -- DUDE, it's based on YOUR plan that YOU implemented! Can we say hypocrite at best? (I'm actually leaning toward liar, but I'm trying hard to be polite. Lord knows why.)
The "tax" that people are ranting about? Ummm, what, you usually get a refund, right? So you'll get a slightly smaller refund if you don't have health insurance. If you're truly poor, you qualify for Medi-Cal or Medicaid so all you have to do is apply.
If you don't like the provisions in the healthcare act, I want to remind you that this is NOT the original plan presented to Congress. This is a compromise with provisions put into it by the Republicans, who are now howling about their own words, claiming that our President put stuff that in. Dude, no he didn't. You dang politicians hung every pork barrel and line of BS onto the plan, knowing that we, the people, needed a healthcare plan, so you took advantage of the situation. Don't whine too much, some of us are way smarter than you think we are and we know whose fault it is!
If you ask me, 90% of the politicians at every level of government should be voted out after a decade of service. In the meantime, their wages should be cut, their benefits reduced to that of their constituents, and so on.
So anyway, the next time you hear Rush or one of his cronies ranting on the radio, remember that they have a vested interest in keeping you riled up with their lies. If you want the true facts, take it to the source! Read the act, read the Supreme Court decision, read the HealthCare.gov website.
And please, don't tell me you're moving to Canada because of the healthcare act. I may have trouble restraining my laughter.

Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes?
So the elections are finally over and now you can relax...
Yeah, right.
The elections are over, but make no mistake, the politicians are already gathering their money, their dirt, and planning the next election campaigns.
NOW is the time to keep your eyes open.
Politicians will tell you whatever you want to hear in order to be elected. Your job is to watch and listen and learn over the next few months and years.
Naturally, you have to be realistic, a downward spiral takes a good while to bring level and then push up. The economy still sucks, although it's finally showing signs of life. The job market still sucks, even though people ARE finding jobs, little by little.
But now is the time to take note of the people you've just elected into office. Did you have to hold your nose to vote for the lesser of two bad choices? NOW is the time to start working toward a better candidate.
Stop looking at the has-beens and the wannabees. Their time has come and gone. Look at the good solid performers, the ones at local levels, the ones with potential, and -- most important -- the ones with a reputation for honesty.
Yes, it's your job, as a voter, to pay attention to the people who you put into office. If they're not following through, it's your job to contact them and make it clear that you are a constituent and you are watching their work. If you're having a problem with a government agency, call them. If you don't agree with their votes, call AND write them.
Somebody has to watch the watchmen.
It's up to you.

Rain, Rain, Go Away...
Rain, rain, go away, come again another day...
And another,
And another,
And another.
I'm Cali, born and raised, so I get a little irritated with the constant nattering about drought.
Bad news folks, California is a wet/dry climate. We have regular cycles of wet and then dry. In other words, it's not a drought, it's normal for our climate.
However, the constant stream of misinformation is big business, not just for the media, but for all aspects of our California culture. Just like the "global warming" scenario is for the Feds and scientists looking for grant money.
To be blunt, the entire planet cycles.
Sometimes it's hotter.
Sometimes it's colder.
Sometimes it's wetter.
Sometimes it's dryer.
There are far, far more factors involved in climate and weather than man's influence.
Now, I'm not saying that we shouldn't use wind, solar, water, any alternate energy source. Heck no! We certainly should. But not because of the hype about global warming. We should do it because done right, it would be cheaper for the consumer.
The next time you hear nattering about drought or global warming, remember: It wasn't that long ago that scientists were sure that we were slipping into the next ice age.
Honestly, all it would take would be another Krakatoa or Tambora or Yellowstone to make an abrupt change in our climate cycles.
So while the doomsayers natter on, do some research, check into the information that they state as fact (it's usually just the latest theory and not a fact at all), and take it all with a grain of salt. The earth may be heating up or cooling down, but scientists and politicians don't know how or why, they just think they do.
And as long as there's grant money available to "prove" those theories, somebody is going to be doing their best to find the facts that fit the theory. Yeah, it's not very ethical, but it's what happens all too often when money meets a theory...

Be Warned, The Winds Of Change Are Coming!
Well, I hate to say it, but this year's budget debacle is nothing new.
We darn near have a budget, and the GOP worked the whole situation to get concessions.
Of course, ALL of the politicians wanted their bit of pork barrel in there, and I'm quite sure they got it. Arnold too.
For those of you outside of Cali, this is nothing new, it just dragged on longer than usual. Our current mess goes way, way back, long before Davis and the foolishness of the recall and election (and reelection) of Arnie.
Believe me, the little people are all too aware that our politicians don't give a rats about us.
Holding up a budget, putting the workers on furlough (can you afford to lose 2 days of work every month?), failing to pay the counties for State MANDATED programs, and then trying to blame state employees for the twists and turns of the political BS that goes on day in and day out in Sacramento. Well, at least when the politicians are actually IN Sacramento and supposedly working on our behalf.
And to add insult to injury, those same politicians are still trying to STEAL the employees' retirement funds. Yes, I'm talking about CalPERS.
CalPERS is the best managed retirement program in the United States. It's the model of retirement programs nationwide, and to be blunt, if the United States ran the Social Security system using the model of CalPERS, we wouldn't be worrying about Social Security failing.
No wonder the politicians drool every time they think of CalPERS. There's a pot of well managed money that they haven't been able to dip their sticky fingers into, and we're going to fight tooth and nail to keep them out of it.
Think "thieves in the temple".
Hell, yes, I'm calling my representatives thieves.
Liars too.
When you hear them blathering on that media sound bite about CalPERS, trust me, they don't give a flying you-know-what about you, the little person. The ENTIRE goal is to steal the little guys' retirement funds.
Don't think that I don't pay into the system either. Darn right I do! I pay out of my paycheck every month into that system, and I'm sure not going to let a pack of hyenas dip into MY money.
For all of you doubters, think Enron. Think of all the retired people who lost their entire pension thanks to the wheeling and dealing and out-and-out lies of Enron.
Don't you see a resemblence here?
I do!
I can see the vultures circling, the pack of hyenas gathering, laughing a vile laugh into the wind. They're under the delusion that they're going to steal our pensions right out from under our noses.
And my response is:
The winds of change are coming, let them come. Let them come and blow a fresh new wind into the State Assembly and Senate. Let the wind blow away the chaff from the least to the most high and leave the good grain behind, to fill the storehouse, to support the workers who work by and for the people.
Let the wind blow away the grasshoppers, who think that they should reap, but never sow. And let the workers, the busy ants, the busy bees, let their voices be heard.
And as the winds of change blow through, let the politicians who have betrayed their trust remember that when they steal from the storehouse, like thieves in the temple, they shall be lit by the light of Truth. Like the tables of the money-changers, they shall be overthrown.
"By the people, for the people." If you aren't following that policy right now, today, my representatives, you WILL be caught by the winds of change.
In other words, all you lying low-life politicians that held us hostage for the last three months, you can kiss your jobs goodbye. We are SO done with you.
Be warned, the winds of change are coming.
Just like so many of your constituents, you're going to be out of work after the next election.
I can hardly wait...

Arnold, The Idiot You Voted In
Don't blame me, I didn't vote for that actor turned politician!
Heck no I didn't.
California's legislators FINALLY get a 2/3 vote to pass the budget, and doofus is threatening to veto it? And if his veto is overturned, he'll veto all the 800 or so bills that the legislators have worked so hard on?
Say what?
It's a DARN good thing I'm not in the legislature.
I would stand up, all five foot two of me, probably as red in the face as my hair, and tell him:
"You just go ahead. And then we'll vote to overturn it, we'll vote our budget in.
"And when you veto every one of our bills, we'll just vote them ALL back in!
"You think you're all that, dude, you aren't worth the bird poop on your windshield.
"So go for it, and see how stupid we can make you look."
I have ZERO patience with this idiot that the people of California were stupid enough to vote in.
Yes, California was stupid.
Actors are paid to put on characters. And politicians will tell you anything you want to hear, just so they get reelected. So actors make even better lying politicians...
Arnold should have stuck to acting. His movies were barely palatable.
He's utterly incompetent as a leader.
Good at being a lying politician, but incompetent at running our state.
Yeah, I know. California voted him in so we're stuck with him and his arrogant attitude toward us working people.
You get what you pay for.
And we'll keep paying...
And paying...
And paying...
Heck no I didn't.

What Have YOU Done Lately For Our Veterans?
Yes, this is a challenge.
What have YOU done lately to help your local Veterans?
These are the young men and women who go off to war, to fight our country's battles, and come home again. Some of them were in the National Guard. They NEVER expected to go overseas, the National Guard was meant for homeland security. The government changed the rules on them, so they too went off to Iraq.
(I have major issues about the legality as well as the morality of sending the National Guard overseas -- but I digress...)
Yes, they're welcomed back, but you know, none of us (except other Veterans) really know or understand what they've gone through.
We don't understand the thousand mile stare. We don't understand the hypervigilance. We don't understand the reasons why they try to forget...
What have YOU done to help Veterans?
These are the victims of US policy, of international politics, of war.
There is a long history of Veterans not being able to cope with the changes in their minds, hearts, spirits when they came home again. Not just Vietnam, this has happened after EVERY war, every police action, every single time!
I know what I do.
I work with a Stand Down group.
I'm already working (behind the scenes) on the 2008 North Bay Stand Down, held every October at the Dixon Fairgrounds in Dixon, California. I'm fortunate that my job allows me to do this on company time, that my employer is completely vested in the success of this event.
What do we do? We set up a three-day encampment for homeless and at-risk Veterans, to hook them up with both VA and County services. Our focus counties are Napa, Solano, Sonoma and Yolo. We also include any other Veterans who choose to participate. Last year, Lake County's Veterans began attending our Stand Down.
We set up tents, we register the Veterans, we get medical, dental, eye, and mental health services for them. We have entertainment. We serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. We have Court, with real judges who volunteer to come and help our men and women resolve lingering court issues.
We WORK to benefit the lives of our Veterans, who have not just sacrificed their physical and mental health in service to our country, they've all too often lost their family, friends, jobs and homes.
Living under a bridge is not a fitting reward for someone who fought for the freedoms that you and I enjoy.
What have YOU done lately for our Veterans? And perhaps more to the point, what have your local politicians, members of the House and Senate, done for our Veterans? The people we voted for, have they followed the will of the people? Or are they deciding for us, without listening to our concerns, our opinions, our viewpoints?
What have we all done lately for our Veterans?
